At sea aboard USS Constellation (CV 64) Dec. 30, 2002 --
Cryptologic Technician 1st Class Steve Reed from Westbury, N.Y., loads leaflets into canisters that will be loaded on coalition aircraft and dropped over Iraq. This is the first time ever that leaflets have been printed on a U.S. Navy ship and then used operationally. U.S. planes patrolling the no-fly zones have begun dropping leaflets encouraging Iraqis to listen for news broadcasts on special radio channels. The leaflets also mention not to shoot at coalition aircraft. Constellation is on a regularly scheduled six-month deployment conducting combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Arabian Gulf (Mar. 20, 2003) --
Two F/A-18 Hornets, one assigned to the 'Kestrels' of Strike Fighter Squadron One Three Seven (VFA-137) (lower-right) and the 'Death Rattlers' of Marine Strike Fighter Squadron Three Two Three (VMFA-323), prepare to launch from the flight deck on board the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CV 64). Constellation and Carrier Air Wing Two (CVW-2) are deployed conducting combat missions in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. Both aircraft are carrying BDU-5 bombs under the wing, designed to explode and disburse informational leaflets to the Iraqi people and military forces.

Sergeant First Class Dain Christensen, of Charlie Company, 9th Psychological Operations (PSYOP) Battalion out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, places anti terrorist flyers over graffiti in Mosul, Iraq on August 16, 2004.  | Spc. Jarod Delhotal, a psychological operations specialist assigned to Company B, 9th PSYOP Battalion, operates a portable loudspeaker as he broadcasts messages in Russian to role players in the Military Operations in Urban Terrain city at Range 68 on Feb. 5. Delhotal and three other Soldiers were at the range participating in a weeklong assessment and selection course for assignment to Tactical PSYOP Detachment 940, which provides direct PSYOP support to the 75th Ranger Regiment. Missions at the range's MOUT site included a village assessment and combat loudspeaker operations. Five candidates spent the week in tough physical and mental trials while vying for spots in the detachment. TPD 940 is assigned to Company B, 9th Battalion, 4th PSYOP Group (Airborne).
